NEAL'S YARD GOODNIGHT PILLOW MIST

The Happy Sage purchased this product.

Good sleep is important for optimum health and it is during the night that your body rests and repairs. Sleep is important for the immune system and sleep deprivation can have some unwanted side effects on your health such as increased blood pressure, irregular heartbeats and higher levels of stress hormones.

There are lots of remedies and methods for getting off to sleep but an aromatherapy product that I have tried recently is Neal's Yard Goodnight Pillow Mist.

use Pillow Mist as part of a relaxing night-time ritual

I do love my night-time rituals as I think they really do help you set up a bedtime routine which helps you get better and deeper restful sleep.

One of the things I do is my night-time skincare routine and I use a Gua Sha facial tool to release any tension in my face and neck. It only takes a few minutes and really helps relax facial muscles. Read all about a Gua Sha facial tool and how to use it.

I also love essential oils and use them every day in my skincare and sometime dab them on my wrists and neck for relaxation, for instance when I do yoga or reiki.

I was really looking forward to trying Neal's Yard Goodnight Pillow Mist as it is full of some of my favourite essential oils and I felt it would be a good addition to my bedtime ritual.

Neal's Yard Goodnight Pillow Mist - ingredients

Aqua/Water, Polyglyceryl-4 Caprate, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Copaifera Officinalis (Balsam Copaiba) Resin, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Vetiveria Zizanoides (Vetiver) Root Oil, Glycerin, Sodium Levulinate, Levulinic Acid, Linalool, Limonene, Citronellol, Geraniol, Citral. *Organic. From essential oils.

The essential oils in Goodnight Pillow Mist:

Chamomile - known for promoting relaxation, calming the mind and being helpful for insomnia

Lavender - balances and stabilises and is extremely soothing for the mind

Copaiba - an unusual oil to add as it is mostly known as an anti-inflammatory and for use in wound healing and skincare, but it does have a deep herby smell so may well enhance the vetivert

Mandarin - helps relieve anxiety and has a sedative effect

Geranium - helps reduce stress and is an excellent relaxant

Vetivert - also known as 'the oil of tranquility', calming, grounding and relives anxiety and tension

The essential oils in the Goodnight Pillow Mist are a great selection for relaxing, calming and grounding you as you prepare for sleep, plus the mandarin essential oil has a useful slight sedative effect.

How do you use Neal's Yard Goodnight Pillow Mist?

The instructions say to use it just before bedtime, and I certainly wouldn't use this during the day unless I was wanting to feel drowsy. If you need something to use during the day which is non-drowsy, try Neal's Yard Remedies to Roll Relaxation to calm and relax you and which has lavender, bergamot, frankincense and geranium. It comes in a nifty handbag sized 9ml rollerball for just £8.

With the Goodnight Pillow Mist you spritz it 1 - 3 times around the room and over the pillow. I admit I don't spray it round the room, I use it over the bed and the pillow area and I probably use about 5 pumps because I love the smell!

Goodnight Pillow Mist - review

Well, it does work! I don't normally have a problem dropping off to sleep but sometimes something will be worrying me and although I am tired, I just can't drop off because my mind is going ten to the dozen. This type of sleep issue responds really well to an aromatherapy product such as Neal's Yard Goodnight Pillow Mist. The vetivert essential oil comes through quite strongly and I find it very grounding and calming and only spray it when I am finished reading and ready to go to sleep or I find my eyes drooping when I am reading!

I have also found that this particular product is excellent if you wake up in the middle of the night. Just a few sprays around the pillow area and some deep breaths to relax and I find myself dropping off easily again. The more you manage to drop off easily after using the Pillow Mist, the more the mind will link the smell of the Goodnight Pillow Mist with sleep and relaxation (olfactory memory) which is another tool in helping you sleep better in the future.

If you are having really bad anxiety and sleep issues, then I suggest you try Innermost's The Relax Capsules which are one of the strongest absolutely natural products I have ever used. Read my review of The Relax Capsules.

I was so impressed with the Goodnight Pillow Mist that I actually bought one as a gift for a friend who was having trouble sleeping and she reported back that it was actually very good - I think people are often surprised by the power of good quality aromatherapy oils!

I was very happy with Neal's Yard Goodnight Pillow Mist and it has earned a regular spot on my bedside table and in The Happy Sage Gallery of Recommended Products.
